‘Homes without people, people without homes’.
Interacting with Homeless individuals in intricately designed show homes produced a series of unconventional portraits which question the contemporary meaning of home and of homelessness.
What is home and what is homelessness?
My experience of night shifts monitoring a hostel dormitory and chatting to homeless men over breakfast began to open a dialogue and an understanding for the issues and concerns facing those on the fringes of society.
This project explores the relations between body, material culture, consumption and social divides. Expressions of isolation and alienation in these ‘aspirational’ environments reflect on the psychological constructs of a home and the underlying human need for a private enclave that defines and constructs our identity and communicates across social divides.
